“Now, don’t make any more excuses, but listen!”

As predicted – no cycling today. It’s miserable, wet, windy and generally not nice out there. I am once again debating the idea of joining the gym; and once again resenting the costs of the gym. I know I could join one of the less expensive organisations like pure-gym, etc. But here is where my vanity and snobbery comes out. I want to join a nice gym-club, like David Lloyd or Virgin Active – but at £150+ per month, it’s not a cost I can justify, especially considering that I’m still paying off my Cambodia Cycling Holiday.
Anyway, going to keep fingers crossed that tomorrow evening is not too horrible whether wise, and go for a little session after work. I have to do some proper cycling this week, though my time is limited. Tuesday I’m out till late, so there’s no chance I’ll cycle then. That really only leaves me with Wednesday. Thursday evening I need an early night, as catching a flight at 7:20 on Friday morning – which means a stupid early wake-up call on Friday.
No cycling next weekend therefore as I’m away. The only consolation prize to this, is that I’m away for a long weekend and that, in my case usually means lots of walking – on such trips my fitbit usually clocks 25k steps a day upwards. So whilst not cycling, at least I’ll be keeping my muscles going. I will have to ensure that, when I’m back and the whether is prevailing, I’m on that bike and giving it some welly.
And maybe consider joining just a little gym. OOOOh, that’s it – my work contract is changing from March, I might be able to get a staff discount for a gym then. Need to check it out. That might be a solution to my problem. Plus a friend of my suggested using Hussle app – which might be another alternative – no membership, just use a gym when I need it.
In a meantime, don’t expect many entries this week. Everything depends on the rain, wind and snow……… 🙂
The Helmet
Whilst the weather ranges, my thoughts turn to wearing a helmet.
I think I’m going to have start wearing one when cycling, especially if I insist on taking the roads joining the parks, and riding along with traffic. Actually it’s not just because of the traffic, but the silly pedestrians who don’t adhere to the red light signals and step in my path. I’ve been unsaddled by an idiot like that once before, who then accused me of turning when I wasn’t supposed to – even though it was a left turn green light for cyclists and RED light for pedestrians. Effing t**t. Never mind.
I don’t like wearing the helmet though. I’m not exactly pretty, or because I’m not pretty, I don’t like wearing anything that makes me look even more ugly – and having a bulky green sauce-pan strapped to your head, not exactly attractive. (OOOH here’s the vanity again) Plus, the chin strap multiplies my double-chin and makes it a triple chin, who wants to look like that out in public. I’m not exactly out there looking for a date, but that doesn’t mean I have to look ugly.
However, if I insist on riding along with the traffic, I think I need to grow up. You’d think that at my age I’d be more rational – but clearly not. Still better safe, than sorry. I’ll fish it out from the storage box and will use it from now on.
