See….I told you it was possible

8th January 2023

We had this discussion in 2021/22 – how to not gain weight over Christmas? How not to use Christmas, or Wedding Anniversary, or Holiday or whatever else you have coming up, to delay your weight watching. I don’t want to call it dieting, because that’s not what I’ve been doing. I’ve been weight watching and I do think there is a considerable difference.

For starters I eat everything….. but you already know that. Chocolate tantrums are a regular occurrence in my life. As are midnight cheese-snacks. Bread is still firmly on the menu.

So… did I or did I not gain weight over the last Christmas? I did not. In fact, I managed to get myself comfortably back into my 84s (84 kilogram bracket that is) and I’m now heading back down towards my 83s. I’ve set myself a target in January of getting back to 82s. It’s not a lot. it’s 2 kilograms / 4lb, so completely doable.

And how did I manage to lose 2/3lb over Christmas with all that food and cake and alcohol in the house. Simple(ish)…I watched my weight, and I didn’t overeat. I had my brekkies, and big, BIG, lunches but I ate those much later in the day. I kept my dinners/suppers small. A few nibbles – just enough to fill a small side-plate if that. Just enough to satisfy the peckish in me… cause there is no way I was hungry after the quantity of food I consumer over lunch.

Once again, it was about breaking out the habit and thinking that you should have a big evening meal, when all you’re doing is going to sit on the sofa later or worse go straight to bed. No sufficient activity of any kind to work off all those calories. Also, I’ve managed to squeeze in a few long walks. Not enough. Truth to be told had the weather been nicer and I’d gotten out more, or had I done some HIIT session (oops), I probably would have gotten back into 83s. Still… this is better than nothing.

Trick for me, once again will be to sticking with the discipline. From tomorrow I am back travelling to office on regular basis, which means getting the 10k a day steps goal will be easily met, so that will help; and because the economy sucks and everything is so expensive I shall be sticking to brining my own food to work… which should also help with the weight watching.

Well… 2023 here I come.

Anniversary

26.12.2022

Wow, in about a month or so, I will be celebrating 3 years of this little blog/diary of mine. Never intended to keep it for that long. Never intended it to be anything other than just a place to capture my training progress for a holiday. That went out of the window very quickly with the onset of the pandemic.

I shan’t be making any grand gestures or big goals for the 3rd anniversary. Just happy to be here, and happy that it provides entertainment value to some readers (and maybe few ideas, some comfort, and whatever else you take away from it).

It’s Christmas break at the moment. And guess what, did I push myself and stick to my new found resolve after my last post? Yes I did. Did I manage to lose those few excess grams of weight just before Christmas? Yes I did. Did I put them back on almost immediately during Christmas dinner? Of course? Am I going out for a long walk today to keep up my resolve? ………………………………. I’ll tell you next time. It’s too early in the day.

Happy Christmas everyone, or Season’s Greetings, or however you jam this time of year.
