Sometimes it’s hard to be a woman…

If you’re a bloke squeamish about women’s periods, look away now

Life is a bi*tch, and it’s hard being a woman. Just as I was getting myself back into a stride of some exercise routine, trying to get back on the bandwagon of a healthy life style – I got hit with a massive period.

Being the age I am, menopause or peri-menopause – they’re kinda on a menu now. A touch too early for my liking, but all this stuff about having menopause at the age your mother did – is great big MYTH – which thankfully most sensible doctors are trying to debunk. My mother had hers at 52, I’m nowhere near that age. However, many women still don’t know that; neither do they know the symptoms to look out for, well here’s a few, and let them know: irregular periods, missing periods for months at a time; sudden and drastic hair loss; memory loss and sudden inability to speak like a human being; out of a blue unusually heavy periods. Plus others which thankfully I haven’t had the misfortune to encounter – and hopefully will not. So if you didn’t know – you do now, and share with your girlfriends.

Anyway, I did a week worth of HIIT sessions, when after months of absence, I got hit with a massive period. Like 10 of them together in one go, with such a large quantity of blood loss, it’s actually scary, and something to keep an eye on as it can lead to anaemia. With that amount of blood loss – seriously I felt like a baby needing a nappy change every half hour or so – doing any kind of exercise was a great big no-no. Unlike a normal heavy period, the way the bubbles of liquid gushed, and of course the mess that goes with it, it’s really not possible to do any kind of exercise. In fact leaving a home was difficult enough. Not worth taking the messy risk.

And I won’t even mention the stomach crumps. So yeah, there – menopause.

All that aside – I managed to get some proper walks in last week, but no HIITS. It really sucks: when your mind is ready and willing, your body then decides to throw you a massive curve ball that you just can’t do anything about.

See you again.
