Lettuce is actually okay

Okay, so I’m on a bit of a health kick right now. Last couple of weeks have been hell at work and that meant cooking stogy comfort food, lots of cake and potatoes. And eating it all. And that meant that the scales have been unhappiest with me for months.

So from this weekend gone onwards I’ve finally started paying better attention to what and how I eat. The exercise thing is a work in progress.

Food wise though I’m back on dips. I love a good dip. I’ve got some on shortlist that I still need to try or try again. But there are those staples like humous and tapenade and salsa. Which I make at home, and stuff way too much garlic in tapenade but I love it.

Anyway, instead of bread – I’ve been smothering the dip over a big leaf of Romaine Lettuce, then sprinkle with a little bit of shredded mozzarella and maybe a sprinkling of ham or cooked chicken, and I do mean sprinkling. Turns out 4 or 5 of big leaves like that, actually make a nice meal. Tasty and fulfilling.

Fingers crossed this will get me back to my pre-stressed-at-work weight. Because there is no way I’m allowing myself to gain weight back – it would mean having to buy a new wardrobe full of bigger clothes to fit into, and quite frankly in this economy, I can’t afford that.
