So I figured out a way to evidence some of my healthier food choices through this blog, without using up the photo space. LOL
Here’s the thing. In modern society, we’re conditioned to believe that breakfast – should be cereal. Lunch – a sandwich. And dinner – meat and two veg. Or a version of.
I’ve questioned the principle of eating a huge meal in the evenings before, when you’re about to go to sleep and have no chance of working off the calories. Once you start challenging yourself on those assumptions on what each meal should be – you’re on your way to resetting your relationship with food. My work friends laughed at me the other day (ok few weeks ago) – when I proceeded to have a full English roast for breakfast one morning. These days, when I rock up to an online or physical meeting, with random breakfast that’s curry, or spaghetti or anything that one would usually expect to consume at dinner – they don’t even bat an eyelid. It’s become normal, for me to have dinner at breakfast.
The thing is, I really wanted a roast, or the other week a chicken curry – but I refuse to eat it in the evening, and fill myself up with calories that I’m not going to burn. Besides, eating cereal for breakfast is a relative modern thing. Before the invention of cereal – what exactly do you think people at in the morning. Anything that was available – including last night’s roast. And quite frankly a little bowl of cereal or two pieces of toast is not going to keep me going for the day.
I’ve reversed my food, as I said before. I now breakfast like a King, lunch like a Queen and dinner like a pauper. And no, it’s not all just about food – I know exercise is required, but take point – even without exercise, having literally turned my meals up-side-down, I’ve managed to maintain my new weight. The minute I go back to ‘standard’ set up, usually when I’m away or dining out – the scales go up again. So there is a reason to the non-madness.
It is psychology though. It is difficult to reverse engineer the habits that have been ingrained in us since childhood and also stepping away from what our society / culture accepts as normal. Pretty sure I can’t find any restaurant in UK that would serve me a roast for breakfast if I asked for one. I’d get some real funny looks. Well, they can look – and I will continue to eat whatever the heck I want first thing in the morning or evening, if it means I get to keep my new waist line.
So How Much Red can you eat? I’m referring to my dinner tonight. In some ways having roast for breakfast is a lot easier, than having just fruit for dinner. Plus I still look at fruit and think – that’s not gonna fill me up. I know better now. After all I had a bowl of strawberries for dinner 3 times last week, and it was enough.
Tonight, this was my dinner – one raw pepper, pot of ready made salsa, and yep another massive plate of strawberries. And now, I’m absolutely stuffed (with a space for 7 chocolate covered brazil nuts, because yes, I’ve given in to sugar. Only temporarily though. Once the packet is gone, I’ll try another couple of days. Hopefully I can make it a week sometime in the nearby future)
