Breathe-in……. Breathe-out

January 27th 2022 – it might have been anyway

I feel like I’ve lost my thread of thought, since losing my previous musings.  A bit deflated.  Also, I swear WordPress keeps changing the functionality of the system, which is driving me bonkers.

Anyhooo – I went for a run today. Worst one yet this side of Christmas – in terms of my speed, etc; but to be honest I’ve spent the first 5 minutes or so fiddling with my headset.  I think I need a new one – headset that is, one of the earbuds is not working to its full volume, and I just can’t run without Wonderland, Thanxx or Pirate King* blasting loud into my ear.

Also, I’ve been making excuses to myself recently for not going running, because it’s too cold.  Remember the Cold Leggses episode/excuse.  Well, seeing as part of me knows that’s just a silly excuse – I’ve decided to treat myself to some warm joggers – branded ones to boot.  I’m not usually brand conscious, not with clothes, and to be honest not so much with accessories either.  I went through a stage of buying few silly branded handbags a while ago, when I got a better job, but beyond that – I see that as waste of money, which I can spend on experiences and holidays instead. However, my purple love, has recently somehow driven me down the brand avenue – and I decided to be a bit snooty and buy some branded sportswear.  And just to make sure passers by knew it was branded and not primark, I’ve made sure to buy at the more ostentatious end of the scale, with the brand plastered all over the top and stripe tape detail on sleeves, you know as you do.

Right, this isn’t about clothes, it’s about exercise – but now that I have the clothes, there’s not excuse for the exercise. Seeing as the joggers arrived, and as cold was the excuse, I had no excuse any more, so I went for a jog-a-walk-a-run today.  And I finished it off with 2 songs worth of bicycle crunches and planks.

Whilst I was running I had a sudden realisation – oh, one of so many on this journey of mine.  I’ve struggled in recent weeks to run, and yes I did b*gger (really need to stop swearing) up my legs a bit before Christmas; however, it dawned on me, that it’s not so much my muscles and leg strength that is preventing me from doing a full loop around the circuit – but breathing.  I get out of breath very quickly, or if not totally out of breath, definitely breathless and actually the back of my throat and lungs burns in pain.  Some time ago I had a thought that perhaps some of this sensation is a residue from being sick with Covid.  I don’t ever remember feeling that much of a burning sensation at the back of my throat, pre Covid times.

Whatever – whether Covid related or not, it is my breathing that’s preventing me from doing longer run bursts.  Looks like this is something I’m going to have to work on, in order to finally be able to do a full circuit in one burst.  I have a feeling it will take a while though.

BTW:  Head-case update.  My head-state case has been ok recently. No meltdown since, well since you know when. No major wobbles either, hmmmm, maybe it was just a glitch. Interesting.    And if you’re new here and you don’t know what I’m talking about >>>>>> that’s all I’m going to say.

* if you like diversity in music and aren’t opposed to listening to something in a foreign language, check it out. It’s so much fun. And those particular songs have a great running beat
