Bat Out of Hell

Remember Meatloaf ?????????? Or ever heard of Meatloaf ?????? Spotify it…..

Major fitness and exercise session today – Saturday 20th March.

Woke up this morning and the first thing I did was engage in a massive HIIT session. I went at it like a Bat out of Hell after a 2 month break.  For all my gymnastics and dancing exercises, I’ve been feeling that I’m not getting the same level of benefit as I was from the HIIT sessions last year.  So I gave it my all, fully expecting to pull a muscle or two and quite frankly hurt all over the following day.  But, I don’t think I am.  It’s the second time in the last few weeks I’ve realised that the dancing gymnastics are providing other benefits.  Because of the manoeuvring, stretching and contorting my body into all sorts of weird positions I’m regaining a level of flexibility I forgot I had, which in turn has provided more flex in the muscles, which in turn means that doing a HIIT session whilst a tad challenging from a cardio perspective – felt like a doddle from the strength and muscle flex perspective.

I have just one thing to say about that then – winner!

After lunch I dragged my sorry arse out of the house for a walk.  Plan was to head to the nearest Starbucks, grab a coffee and head back home.  Half way there though, a notion took me to carry on and do a loop around Battersea Park.  I also thought that if I was going to support a business struggling through this pandemic by treating myself to a coffee, I might just as well support a small business, rather than a big ‘conglomerate’ type like Starbucks.  There is a little coffee shop truck in Battersea Park, so I headed for that – to support the small, local’ish’ business.

Coffee in hand – and it looks like the boys had a busy day, glad to hear it – I ventured into the Park to explore its innermost heart.  All those weeks of cycling around last year, whilst prepping for my cycling holiday (now only a dream), I only ever stuck to the cycling path and kept doing loops around the circular.  Not once did I step off the bike and explore the interior.  Until today.  Just as well though, as I’m soon to move away from the area.  But that’s by-the-by.  Three hours, 13 kms and 19,000 steps later, I made it home.  Knackered, refreshed and hungry.  And not entirely happy but at least semi-satisfied.
