Big Ole Lunch – 14.03.2020

“Lunch was a cheerful meal.” A Room with a View, E.M.Foster

Distance Travelled: 45.3 km; Total Distance Travelled: 358.30kms;  Days to holiday: 308

It was a good day.  I cycled on Saturday because I was meeting a friend for lunch in Greenwich.  Thought it would be a good idea to cycle from Fulham to Canary Wharf – and I actually cycled all the way to the tip of Isle of Dogs, where I picked up the DLR to cross the river. With the development of London cycling pathways and highways, getting across the city was actually a piece of cake. Well, other than me being out of condition and having to give it some welly along a few places. The route along the road stretching from Pimlico, along Battersea and Westminster, then joins fairly easily with cycle-highway on Northbank, especially now with the improved cycle routing around Westminster Square. Then on to St Katherine’s dock and through the backroads of Wapping, all the way to Canary Wharf and Isle of Dogs.

In Greenwich we indulged in a 2 hour Chinese lunch at a Noodle Time restaurant, which included Pork Buns – they do the nicest Pork Buns in that restaurant.  In fact both of us have travelled to Greenwich several times over the last few months just to indulge in those Pork Buns.  What’s more, the portions at the place are very generous and pretty much each time we are there, we end up taking food back with us which then serves as dinner or lunch on the following day.

Having feasted and mingled, I took the DLR back to Mudchute, picked up a bike and cycled back home, with an extra loop in Battersea Park thrown in for good measure.  Thus achieved the 45.3kms, which is my current best score for a day’s cycling.

In a way it was good that I did 2 big cycling session in a day – because in reality, that is what I will be expected to do in Cambodia – and with far bigger distances. Good job I still have so much time to prepare.

Beyond that – there’s nothing else to report.  I cycled, survived, didn’t feel to exhausted.

End of report card 🙂
