“I never saw a fellow so spoiled by success.” – North & South, E. Gaskell
Distance Travelled: 33.36 km; Total Distance Travelled: 268kms; Days to holiday: 316
I don’t know what happened to me this week; and I mean it in the best possible way. Seriously. It’s now Saturday morning – and I’ve done 2 training sessions this week – Tuesday and Friday. What’s more, my Friday evening session turned out to be at the higher end of my current distance goals at 33.36 kms. If I’m honest – I was hoping for around 20kms and I’m not entirely sure how I got to 33.
I was doing loops around Battersea Park, going round and round and round, sometimes double-backing on myself, doing extra loops around the little roundabout – for those who know the park; sometimes going on the external road that runs along the park, the one on the south-side, that’s much quieter. Before finally, taking Chelsea bridge to head back home towards Fulham. It didn’t feel like I’ve travelled so far, so when I eventually looked at the tracker, I was really pleasantly surprised.
I have, for the last few sessions turned off the Voice reminder of distance travelled on mat tracking app. I have also discovered the Autostop button – which means my average time is more accurate. As mentioned previously, I figured that by not focusing on the distance, not being reminded how much more I have to cycle – I might actually do better, travel further and faster. The strategy seems to be working. I mean 33.36kms on a Boris Bike, on a school night. Result.
If I carry on like this I’m not going to have anything to report soon. Wouldn’t that be boring.
This morning, I feel fine. A little tired, but otherwise fine. I guess, it’s the cheat of cycling on a flat ground. I will need to get back to Hyde Park and do the Horse Guards hill at some point. That’s the plan for tomorrow. Start off at Battersea Park. Well start off at home, head to Battersea Park, take the Chelsea Bridge, cycle along river to Westminster, cut across st James’s Park, then Green Park and off to Hyde Park. However, I will try to add Regent’s Park tomorrow.
Hmmm. What’s the weather forecast??? Rain!!! Bummer. I might not be doing anything. Not sure I’m brave enough to go out in the rain – no matter how waterproof some of my layers may be. Grrr! That’s actually quite annoying. I’m in the right frame of mind at the moment to persevere. I do not need distractions or blockers.
P.S. also did a session on Tuesday of 17.3kms
